The Delaware Highlands Conservancy is a nationally accredited land trust dedicated to conserving the natural heritage and quality of life in the Upper Delaware River region in partnership with the region’s landowners and communities.
Our mission is to conserve the forests, farmland, clean waters, and wildlife habitat of the Upper Delaware River region. Founded in 1994, the Conservancy has helped to protect more than 18,000 acres to date.
The Conservancy has two offices, one in Beach Lake, PA and one in Barryville, NY. We do our important work with an extremely dedicated staff supported primarily through the generous contributions of our members. Our citizen volunteers contribute significantly to our efforts, helping in the office, at events, and with annual visits to our conservation easements.
Conservancy efforts are focused in three primary areas:
- Land protection
- Education and events
- Partnerships and special initiatives
Our Beach Lake, PA headquarters, Van Scott Nature Reserve features more than three miles of publicly accessible walking trails through the woods and wildflower meadows, along with two ponds, wetlands, and a tributary to Beach Lake Creek. The meadows provide important habitat for ground-nesting birds and for pollinators like butterflies and bees, while the forests on the property provide habitat for a variety of wildlife and help to protect clean drinking water.
