Nominee Biographies

Officer Nominees

Laura Burrell, President nominee

Laura and her husband Jeremy Burrell joined the community of in 2014. She runs a natural stone design and import business called Doozer, and absolutely loves living in Sullivan County. As her business grows and develops, she hopes to support the local economy and community in many ways—through advocacy, volunteerism and by simply being a good neighbor. She is an active volunteer for the Friends of New Hope Manor, serves on the board of the Sunshine Hall Free Library and has worked in the Museum Education and Creative Programs department for Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Before joining Bethel Woods, she worked with a local nonprofit to administer a program in multiple Sullivan County school districts supporting culturally diverse and economically challenged students to pursue college training, and ultimately, careers in teaching and education. She brings to the Chamber knowledge and experience with grant writing, strategic planning, nonprofit board development, fundraising, and marketing. Laura has held previous roles at CUNY and Pratt Institute in New York and the Center City Opera Theater, University of the Arts and Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Laura is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture, as well as a graduate of Drexel University where she earned a Masters in Science in Arts & Cultural/Nonprofit Management.

Catherine Daboul, Vice President nominee

A graduate from Rutgers University with a BS in Biology and the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens with a Medical Technology degree. The medical practice office manager and care coordinator for River Valley Family Medical/Middletown Medical in Barryville and Port Jervis, NY. A practice that Cathy has shared with her husband, Dr. Richard Daboul, in Barryville since 1986 and in Port Jervis since 1988.

She serves on the board of Friends of New Hope Manor and the operating board, in addition to being a volunteer for Bethel Woods Center for the Arts for 9 years. Cathy has been an active member of GBCC since inception, always willing to pitch in to help, Cathy has shared responsibilities for past and future events like Pumpkin Fest, the Winter Warm-Up Dinner, Tree Lighting, Butterfly Bike Ride & Seed Toss, Community Volunteer Scholarship committee, and GBCC's beautification projects. Ask Cathy to locate something or show up…she’ll be there.

Mary Jones-Mellett, Treasurer nominee

Mary Jones is a New York State licensed real estate agent as well as a licensed cosmetologist. Mary became a resident here in Sullivan County starting in the year 2000 first as a part time/weekender and in 2011, along with her family, she moved to the area full-time. Before her life here in the Greater Barryville community, Mary owned and operated a fast paced hair salon on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. There she honed her business skills and became an intricate part of the business community. After being a busy hair stylist for over 2 decades, Mary traded in her scissors for a real estate career. Mary has been focusing not only on the Upper Delaware River area, but the Greater Hudson Valley since 2015. Not being behind the chair only lasted a short while, in January 2022, Mary joined the hair styling team at The Highlands Salon in Barryville. Mary has a passion and commitment to being a part of the local community and has often volunteered in the many events that the Great Barryville Chamber of Commerce hosts throughout the year. Mary is the current Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce Treasurer. She took control of the position in mid 2021 and is looking forward to many more years of being a part of this community.

Angela Kiser, Secretary nominee

Angela Kiser is thrilled to be in her fifth year of living full-time in this beautiful area, though she has spent time here annually since 2009. As an avid patron of all of our local businesses and institutions, she’s excited to be involved with serving the membership and community at large. As a theatre artist and educator with strong event planning, fundraising, and graphic and web design skills, Angela thoroughly enjoys being a part of creative ideas and witnessing their manifestation. She has experience working with and building successful, cooperative, and motivated teams in non-profits, small businesses, as well as corporate chains (yes, she began her professional career as a hardcore Geek Squad agent at Best Buy). Angela been a volunteer for many events and organizations in this community, including the Sunshine Hall Free Library and Amity Foundation. She holds a BFA in Performance & Choreography from Western Washington University and has created multiple solo and group performances. She relocated from Washington State to become the Marketing and Communications Director as well as faculty at the Margolis Method Center, and a core ensemble member of the internationally touring performance company, MB Adaptors. She also works in IT and has run her own event production and design company.


Board of Directors Nominees

Dr. Marie Devore, Board of Directors nominee

Life-long area resident. Graduated from Binghamton University with a BS in biology. Graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson school of Dental medicine. President of the Tri-State Dental Society. Has had a dental practice in Barryville for over 30 years. Active long-time member GBCC.

Nonna Hall, Board of Directors nominee

I’m the creator and owner of a little company, Nonneta’s Keramika by Nonna Hall. I design and produce ceramic tablewares and other decorative and functional things made out of clay. In addition, I teach both kids and adults how to work with clay. My husband and I moved from Brooklyn in December 2015. I’ve created my studio in my house, which makes me much happier than renting space in the city.

I’m proud to be a part of this beautiful community and would love to contribute in any possible way. This is one reason why I would love to be a board member. I am sure that I can provide the same enthusiasm and energy I have for my own business to support and create interesting moments in our greater community.

My interests would include making the community visually and spiritually more beautiful and more fun. I would love to help with beautification as well as continue helping to organize the Butterfly Ball and Pumpkin Fest. I could also help around Christmas events.

John Pizzolato, Board of Directors nominee

John Pizzolato is co-owner of Barryville Oasis, Stickett Inn, and the Inn's namesake cider company. He is also the Program Manager for the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway Committee and represents the Chamber on the byway.  He co-founded the Barryville Farmers' Market and is also a board member of the Sullivan Catskills Visitors' Association, a committed volunteer at the Yulan Food Pantry, and is co-host of the "Everything's Better in Barryville" podcast for Heritage Network. John has lived in Barryville for 18 years with husband, Roswell Hamrick.

Roswell Hamrick, Board of Directors nominee

Roswell Hamrick has been a Barryville resident for over 25 years and is a founding member of the Chamber. He believes in the original mission, now more than ever, to promote local businesses and celebrate the natural beauty of our area. In addition to being a production designer for film and television, he has been involved in a variety of local businesses and co-created The Stickett Inn. The project has grown to include a coffee shop, NY State Cider Tasting room and gas station. Roswell has been the Chamber President for the past 6 years and has been awarded with grants and honors from Sullivan 180 for his work on the community gardens in our town. He resides in Barryville with husband John Pizzolato.

Fundraising & Events

Committee members meet outside of normal monthly meetings to coordinate, plan and execute events related to fundraising and community goodwill. This includes an annual fundraiser to support scholarship funding for Eldred Central School District graduating students. (Winter Warm Up, Love Where You Live picnic). A short report (verbal or written) is submitted in advance of Chamber meetings to update the board, solicit support for events and vote on needed tasks, items.


Beautification & Community Relations

Committee members meet outside of normal monthly meetings to discuss beautification and volunteer outreach efforts. Committee will help to apply for an oversee Sullivan 180 Beautification grant for existing gardens and the new Highland Community Welcome area gardens and hanging baskets. Committee members will work to gather volunteers and oversee interns (when granted) as well as help write and submit final reports. Garden work is a community effort with regular summer and fall planting, weeding and watering days in small or large groups with youth engagement. A short report (verbal or written) is submitted in advance of Chamber meetings to update the board on items, needs.


Branding & Publicity

Committee members meet outside of normal monthly meetings to organize physical and virtual communications, including a digital email listserv and social media calendar. This can include creative posters, newspaper adverts, posting to community calendars and sending out e-blasts. A short report (verbal or written) is submitted in advance of Chamber meetings to update the board, request events to promote and discuss costs associated with support of Treasurer.


Membership

Committee members meet outside of normal monthly meetings to organize membership lists, reach out to members for annual dues, meet and greet new business owners and organizations with potential to join the GBCC and collect data to better understand the needs and wants of our membership. A short report (verbal or written) is submitted in advance of Chamber meetings to update the board, solicit support for events such as Ribbon Cutting dates.
