A Celebration of Plein Air

September 2, 2023 | 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The vibrant world of plein air painting is set to take center stage at the upcoming art reception and exhibit, “A Celebration of Plein Air.” This event will include prints by the world’s most famous plein air artists, plus showcase the captivating scenes created by local artists at the recent Plein Air Along the Brook, Plein Air Narrowsburg, and Plein Air Fort Delaware community painting parties.

Plein air painting is a technique that captures the essence of nature and light. Rooted in the 19th century, this technique got really popular due to the work of renowned artists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, whose prints will also be on display in our History of Plein Air exhibit.

Attendees will be taken on a historical voyage, featuring iconic plein air paintings that exemplify the movement’s influence on Impressionism and its subsequent impact on modern art.

Along with the prints of paintings centuries old will be artwork created just one week before. This includes the landscapes and streetscapes of Plein Air Narrowsburg plus local artists’ interpretations at scenes at historic Fort Delaware.

“Western Sullivan Public Library is thrilled to present this exhibit that celebrates the legacy of plein air painting and showcases the talent of contemporary local artists,” says the Event Coordinator. “The combination of historical pieces and the fresh, modern creations makes for a truly fascinating contrast.”

Expect to meet some of the participating artists, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and engage in insightful conversations.

The art reception will take place on September 2, from Noon to 2 PM at the Narrowsburg branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library.
