Barn Quilt Painting Workshop

Sullivan Public is so pleased to host Kristin Texeira, our accomplished artist-in-residence, for the next session in her series, Painting Barn Quilts. We will gather and spend an afternoon guided by Kristin to each make our own large scale barn quilt painting. Barn quilts are wood panels painted in the geometric patterns of traditional quilts. Often the pattern or color reflects a regional or family history. They’ve been used as navigational guides and for coded messages in wartimes. The farmers who originally hung these on their barns, had deep-rooted superstitions, and believed that these painted symbols would protect their barns, families and farms from evil spirits and bring good luck.
